For coexistence between river ecosystems and human communities
The Foundation for Riverfront Improvement and Restoration was established in 1987. Its purpose is to perform comprehensive research and technical development, in regard to the ideal situation, conservation, use and improvement of river, lake and seacoast environment, as well as the conservation and restoration of ecosystems, and to apply the research results to wider areas in society, thus contributing to ensuring safe, fertile and water-rich land.

The foundation is actively promoting research & development by building networks with academic experts and others on comprehensive and leading-edge themes concerning waterfronts including rivers or close relations between the government and residents, and asking for their advice. Taking advantage of nature as a public interest corporation, we engage in preparing various kinds of accurate and unbiased manuals, guidelines, etc., and transmitting up-to-date technical information through long-term independent study and collection/accumulation of various information. As a result, we believe we can greatly contribute to the improvement, conservation and utilization of waterfront areas including rivers.
